Fourth getaway of Christmas: Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls, Hocking Hills, OH
Head to the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls in Logan, Ohio, for a 19-year holiday tradition: making cookies from generations-old German cookie recipes amidst the magnificent scenery of Hocking Hills.
Located just a half mile above the scenic Cedar Falls, the inn – a green certified and Select Registry property with cabin and cottage retreats and calming bed and breakfast rooms – offers hiking, bird watching, canoeing and fishing, as well as photo ops against a backdrop of thick forests and woodlands. The inn’s dining room features fine American cuisine prepared with organic herbs and vegetables grown right outside the kitchen door.
During the holiday cookie baking classes, innkeeper Ellen Grinsfelder and executive chef Anthony Schulz share age-old personal holiday cookie recipes with guests in an inn tradition that has become wildly popular; in fact, guests have been lining up for these classes for nearly three decades. This year held on Saturday, Dec. 6 and 13, the classes will give guests the opportunity to learn to bake five different varieties of holiday cookies and candies, each carefully selected by Grinsfelder and Schulz. Class fee is $55 and includes instruction, recipes, lunch and a bag of cookies to take home. (See cookie recipe below.)
In addition to the cooking baking class, crafty DIYers can sign up for a festive wreath making class with Kellie Hutchison, the inn’s gardener and nature enthusiast. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, Hutchinson will teach participants how to artfully craft a beautiful holiday wreath to take home. This hands-on class is $55 and includes lunch and supplies to create a one-of-a-kind wreath.
Participants of both classes can extend their visit with an unforgettable holiday getaway at the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls – and at a special 25 percent discount on overnight accommodations.
