Seventh getaway of Christmas: Georgia’s enchanting Barnsley Resort
You don’t need 10 drummers drumming to cast a spell of holiday enchantment over your true love; just spirit him or her off to Barnsley Resort, a winter wonderland, Southern-style, located 60 miles north of Atlanta in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
A luxury country resort known for gorgeous accommodations, fine dining, a relaxing boutique spa, outstanding horseback riding and golf, and nature exploration, this Adairsville, GA haven has a storybook setting recalling an 18th-century European village. During its annual Light Up the Holidays celebration, when more than 1 million lights and festive decor adorn the historic manor house ruins, the village and surrounding gardens, it is nothing short of magical.
Adding to the spellbinding atmosphere is one wish-granting Fairy Godmother.
Guests can request a Love Spell during their stay and, with a wave of her crystal-encrusted wand (and typically while you’re off enjoying dinner in the ambiance of an English hunting lodge at the Woodlands Grill), Fairy Godmother will grant it.
Here are some spells that have been performed for guests during the holiday season:
Make this the merriest holiday ever with a cozy comforter set in front of the fireplace with tea light candles adding to the glow. Sip on hot toddies and indulge in decadent chocolates while seeing what surprises are socked away in a stocking full of romantic items. The possibilities include things like bubble bath, massage oil or massage candles, perhaps a garter or Santa hat or other surprises.
Love Me S’more
S’mores are a special part of Barnsley Resort and they are brought inside for a warm, romantic evening. Enjoy hot chocolate, graham crackers, marshmallows, Hershey bars and real bamboo skewers.
“A bottle of Baileys liqueur is provided for sippin’ ‘tween roastin’ and snugglin,’” said Fairy Godmother.
Black Tie Affair
Spend a romantic evening at a Black Tie Affair for two in your luxurious Barnsley Resort cottage. Return from dinner to find tea light candles in your room, setting the mood for romance. Share a bottle of sparkling wine and decadent chocolate truffles for a sweet ending to a special evening. Open an elegant gift box filled with the components certain to “dress up” the evening along with Barnsley Resort’s signature bubble bath to enjoy during a luxurious soak.
“The gift box could have a boa, long gloves, long strand of faux pearls and black tie to dress up the occasion, a sensual-smelling candle or other black tie surprises,” said Fairy Godmother.
Love Spells may be requested (for a fee) to enhance your stay. Barnsley Resort currently has a special “Light Up the Holidays” package that includes luxurious cottage accommodations, a $50 resort credit and a keepsake Barnsley Resort ornament. The resort credit may be used for dining, spa treatments, activities such as clay shooting or horseback riding, or even shopping for last minute gifts. Rates are available from $259/night, Sunday through Thursday, and from $339/night for weekends (Friday and Saturday). This offer is valid through Dec. 30, 2015.
In addition to its “Light Up the Holidays” package, Barnsley Resort is planning elaborate holiday dining presentations for holiday dinners, including a Christmas Day buffet at the resort’s 1800s-era farmhouse, the Rice House, and New Year’s Eve, an elegant four-course dinner – also in the Rice House – followed by a party in the Pavilion with dancing, live music and a champagne toast at midnight.
